Airbus has required checks on three types of helicopters following a fatal accident in Norway, Norwegian authorities said Wednesday.

Five Norwegians and their pilot died when their AS350B3e helicopter fell in Arctic Norway on Aug. 31. Norwegian investigators have not decided on the cause.

Following preceding findings connected to the link between the engine and the main gearbox, Airbus Helicopters has raised an emergency alarm service bulletin calling for visual examinations of this space on all recently shipped AS350, AS550, and EC130 helicopters, investigators stated.

“In response to Airbus Helicopters, issuance of the EASB is a precautionary measure to make sure the renewed airworthiness of the helicopter type,” the Accident Investigation Board Norway mentioned in a statement.

Helitrans, the controller of the crashed helicopter, mentioned it had carried out the prescribed examination on its 15 helicopters of the same type.

“There were no discoveries of any kind. According to the suggestions from Airbus, the helicopters are thus approved to fly and will probably be put back into operation,” the corporate mentioned in a statement.

In 2016, an Airbus Super Puma helicopter crashed off the coast of Norway, killing all 13 people aboard, the results of metal fault in its gearbox.

Consequently, Norwegian authorities recommended Airbus revise the design of the principle gearbox of its AS 332 L2 and EC 225 LP Super Puma helicopters. These models are completely different from the model that crashed in August.

In the 2016 crash, the Tremendous Puma’s principal rotor blades isolated from the helicopter as it was carrying travelers from an offshore oil platform.
