US Military to Reveal First IM-SHORAD Prototype in October

The U.S. Military will take the chance at the AUSA Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington to unveil a brand new air and missile defense Stryker alternative that will be developed to strengthen ground forces in Europe from Russian threats.

Over the past 15 years, the Military inactivated many of its Short Range Air Defense (SHORAD) programs since leaders didn’t see a compelling need for them.

The first Initial-Maneuver-Short Range Air Defense automobile will be on show at the Association of the US Military exhibition in October.

The brand new air defense program, known as the IM-SHORAD, will be built-in on the Stryker A1 platform, will provide maneuver Brigade Battle Teams with a full “detect-identify-track-defeat” functionality required to defeat Uncrewed Aerial System, rotary-wing and fixed-wing warnings.

The new fight system contains kinetic and non-kinetic defeat abilities and an on-board radar that would provide 360-degree air protection of the Stryker and Armor Brigade Combat Teams all through the array of army missions.

In a recent notice published on the Federal Business Opportunities website, the service urged industry proposals in regards to a capability to ship 144 IM-SHORAD systems with deliveries starting in the fiscal year 2020 and final deliveries in 2024.

Based on the current data, the U.S. Military expects to receive the primary 36 Stryker-based air protection systems in FY21, and between 36-72 units per year in FY22 and FY23. Follow on battalions shall be outfitted with enhanced effectors similar to a laser or advanced missile.
