Raytheon Ships First Growler's Jamming Pod for Testing

U.S. weapons producer Raytheon on Monday declared the delivery of first Next-Gen Jammer Mid-Band Engineering and Manufacturing Development pod to the U.S. Navy to start ground and aircraft integration examination.

Raytheon’s Next-Gen Jammer Mid-Band solution was chosen by the U.S. Navy in 2013 to replace the legacy ALQ-99 programs used on the EA-18G Growler airborne electronic assault jet. In 2016, the U.S. Navy granted Raytheon a $1B Next-Gen Jammer Mid-Band Engineering and Manufacturing Development deal.

Based on the current info, Raytheon will deliver 15 EMD pods for mission programs testing and qualification in addition to 14 aeromechanical pods for airworthiness certification.

NGJ-MB is a high-capability and power airborne digital attack weapon program for the EA-18G Growler. It will protect air forces by denying, degrading, and disrupting threat radars and communication gadgets.

“The first NGJ-MB pod is out the door,” said Stefan Baur, VP of Raytheon Electronic Warfare Programs. “We’re one step nearer extending the Navy’s jamming array and functionality.”

Moreover, in the third quarter of 2019, Raytheon will utilize a Prime Energy Generation Capability pod put in on a commercial Gulfstream plane in order to conduct power generation flight testing and risk cut efforts in support of the initial flight clearance procedure

Raytheon’s NGJ-MB architecture and design include the flexibility to operate at a significantly enhanced range, attack multiple points simultaneously, and superior jamming strategies. The technology can be scaled to other missions and programs.
